The Kingdom Series –‘How the Kingdom Comes’
“Another parable He spoke to them: “The kingdom of heaven is like leaven, which a woman took and hid in three measures of meal till it was all leavened.” (Matthew 13:33).
(A Report on the Day of Visitation Prayer Gathering)
Quoting from Isaiah 56:17 Jesus taught and reminded His disciples how it had been written, “My house shall be called a house of prayer for all nations” (Mark 11:17). Though Jesus died for individuals His redemption story includes the salvation of entire nations.
Early this past Sunday morning the Lord seemed to whisper into my ear how on the previous day June 24th, Isaiah’s prophecy Jesus referred to in Mark 11:17 was literally fulfilled, ‘in one day’, as believers from various ministries and places gathered in Moravian Falls for what was called ‘The Day of Visitation Prayer Gathering’.
While a number of people personally attended, others gathered and called in from various cities and countries to cry out to God to send another great spiritual awakening and reformation to this nation and every nation on earth.
It was a prayer event possibly unlike any in history. With many in agreement from different locations around the earth, the Holy Spirit placed on our hearts what He Himself desires to do. While we were reinforcing the ongoing prayers of the saints of generations, our intercession Saturday could have been the final drop that caused the bowls to overflow and tip over. One example of almost an immediate answer to prayer can be seen in how this week segments of the secular media are being exposed for its deception and production of fake news stories.
The question is what do we do next? If I have heard correctly we go on sabbatical, we rest, acquire fresh vision, wait, get quiet, cease from our labors, spend time in His word, draw closer to Him and one another expecting the increase and rippling effect He promised to come to pass in His way, timing and manner where He gets all the glory! At the same time we must prepare ourselves for what will one day prove to be some of history’s greatest battles and victories.
In the Parable of the Leaven Jesus speaks of the kingdom of heaven, (or kingdom of God, which used either way refers to the same kingdom in Scripture), as leaven. Often leaven refers to something evil but in this context it points to the good effect the gospel and the work He leads us into has upon the world.
A pinch of leaven kneaded into a lump of dough eventually transforms it into a loaf of bread. However this process does not come about easily. The dough has to be stretched, pulled, pounded, pushed and flipped in order for the leaven to be properly mixed. After this process the dough rests allowing the leaven to multiply. Soon the dough rises and is ready to be baked into the loaf of bread it is intended to be.
With so much momentum and expectancy currently going on at the Gathering, why would we take a sabbatical and not gather for a season on Sunday mornings? Wouldn’t common sense dictate that we can’t stop and rest now? Yet common sense is not necessarily kingdom sense.
In using the process of baking bread Jesus uses leaven as an example of how the kingdom comes. It doesn’t come through giving it our best effort but through our obedience to only what He tells us to do. The kingdom doesn’t come through our works but in our rest fully yielding to the Holy Spirit. After the leaven was distributed into the dough there was nothing to do except to rest allowing the dough to rise. Then the fire will do its job.
Regardless of the sabbatical, we are in a season where we must now rest, wait, worship and watch as His Kingdom comes.
Have a restful sabbatical and see you soon!
