The Lord Our Defense
Dear Presidential Prayer Watch Intercessors,
As we come to our nation’s 243rd birthday I wanted to send you a painting that took hundreds of hours to complete by David Kieller. You can order a print or find out more about this painting by going to his web site www.thegloryofamerica.com. In addition I would like to share a quick encouragement from Psalm 124.
The Lord Our Defense
David said it well when he boldly and truthfully declared:
"If it had not been the Lord who was on our side,"
Let Israel (America) now say —
"If it had not been the Lord who was on our side,
When men rose up against us,
Then they would have swallowed us alive,
When their wrath was kindled against us;
Then the waters would have overwhelmed us,
The stream would have gone over our soul;
Then the swollen waters
Would have gone over our soul."
Blessed be the Lord,
Who has not given us as prey to their teeth.
Our soul has escaped as a bird from the snare of the fowlers;
The snare is broken, and we have escaped.
Our help is in the name of the Lord,
Who made heaven and earth” (Ps 124).
All of us are aware that America’s days were truly numbered just two and half years ago. But in answer to the effective, fervent prayers of the righteous, (James 5:16), God, who is our helper amid the flood arose in our defense. America was granted a reprieve.
This Psalm pretty well tells King David’s story and ours. We don’t need a lot of commentary to understand how this Psalm applies to us except to agree that likewise the president and our nation “has escaped as a bird from the snare of the fowlers”. The Lord has been and is on our side. Yet we also understand that God is only on our side to the degree we are and remain on His. “Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord”, (not was). (Psalm 33:12)
When his enemies continued and were relentless in their pursuit, David remained dependent and confident in his God. He continually inquired of the Lord.
The fiercest battles America has faced are still to come, especially as we get closer to and after the 2020 elections. Therefore we must and will remain faithful. In the meantime, we have arrived at another 4th of July and there are many reasons for us to be both grateful and hopeful! David Keiller in his painting explains some of why this is true. (Take time to go to his web site www.thegloryofamerica.com and read the revelation behind his painting).
Thanks again to all who have stayed in the fight and on their knees. As David sang in Psalm 124, we too can boldly declare it is “the Lord who is on our side”.
Happy 4th of July to each of you and Happy Birthday America!
