About Us Our History
In December of 2002 the Lord began dealing with Pastor Arthur's heart in concerns to planting a church ministry that would service the needs of the Southern Bergen County region. After months of prayer, fasting, and preparation in covenant agreement with our General Overseer, Bishop Carlton T. Brown and the vision of Bethel Gospel Assembly; “A Loving, Learning and Launching Church” The Gathering was launched. The Gathering is a church that exists to minister to the soul, mind and body of individuals--through worship, networking and equipping them with the life skills they need to impact their world. In November 2003 Pastor Arthur along with his wife Alverna began hosting weekly services at the Hilton Hotel in Hasbrouck Heights, NJ. During this time of establishment the power of the Holy Ghost confirmed this new work as something special and much was to be required to reach the lost for Him!
In April of 2004 they discovered a facility to house the ministry. Their new location at 200 Central Avenue was a beautiful storefront in the midst of the target community in which the Lord gave them a burden for. They geared their services to bring messages of faith, hope and encouragement to the Hackensack Community. They also began having weekly prayer and Bible Study services on Wednesdays and planning community outreach events.
In July of 2006 the Lord began to deal with Pastor Arthur’s heart in concerns to finding a new facility to host The Gathering’s weekly services because they had outgrown their storefront facility. The Lord blessed The Gathering Church once again with a new location in January of 2007 at the Interfaith Chapel on the Fairleigh Dickinson University Campus in Teaneck, NJ where they currently meet.
The passion of this church is to reach various youth and adults alike through this ministry with relevant messages of faith, hope and love. According to Pastor Arthur, The Gathering Church prides itself in being a place where “the younger and older generation can come together to worship the Lord in the liberty wherewith Christ has made them free.” Truly The Gathering Church is “a Place of Grace”.
